On this Burma Cycling holiday, you will visit some of the most iconic places in the country including Mandalay the last Royal Capital and magnificent archaeological wonder of Asia, Bagan.
Your Myanmar journey starts in the thriving business capital Yangon, a city in transition from old and rundown to new and modern.

DAY 1YANGON HIGHLIGHTS WALKING TOUR

Mingalabar – Warm welcome to Myanmar!

Meet your guide at Yangon airport and transfer to your hotel. Today we visit colonial-style city center of Yangon starting from one of the landmarks Sule Paya stupa – built over 2,000 years ago.

Explore Yangon’s old quarter on a leisurely walking tour and marvel at colonial-era buildings and architecture and the hidden market streets teeming with life. Stop for a cup of tea in the fashion of locals, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Yangon.

Visit the main bazaar of Yangon where clothes and food stores are tucked in a maze of colour. We complete the day with a walk around Singuttara Hill where Buddhist monasteries and nunneries encircle the Shwedagon pagoda, one of the world’s most spectacular monuments. Shwedagon Pagoda is a gold-covered bell dome structure that dominates the city’s skyline and is frequented by pious locals it is also an iconic symbol of the country, a sight not to be missed.

DAY 2CYCLING DAY IN SHAN STATE

Breakfast at hotel and transfer to Yangon domestic airport for (1hr) flight to Heho, a quiet transit town with one of the few airport links in the beautiful hills of Shan State. On a market day we’ll make sure to visit the bustling Heho market, the meeting point for different ethnic minority groups of the surrounding areas to trade handmade goods and locally grown produce.

Transfer 30min to Aung Ban town for bike fitting.

Today’s ride is approx. 40km we ride along recently upgraded countryside road with very light traffic. We pass through small villages and farming region. As we get closer to Inle Lake valley mountains grow more dramatic until final downhill ride down to Inn Thein village known or its pagodas, a site that makes us feel as if we’ve stepped through a forgotten portal in time. To access the complex, we walk through verdant bamboo groves that open up to a field covered with the ancient pagodas constructed over 1,000 years ago.

Our local support team will arrange home or monastery cooked lunch along the way.

From Inn Thein we journey out by boat, following the currents of a small river to reach Inle Lake. For those who would like to ride bit further can continue to Phaung Daw Oo pagoda and join boat there.

Delight in the picturesque sights of fishermen who balance and row with one leg, a technique indigenous to the Inn Thar minority group who do this only on Inle Lake.

DAY 3CYCLING IN INLE LAKE

After breakfast we take a leisurely ride along the eastern shore of the lake. We’ll make a stop the Red Mountain vine estate to learn how Myanmar’s premier wines are produced. Continue to Thale Oo and Nampan villages and embark on a canoe excursion paddled by local hosts to a village built on stilts. Rest of the day is spent on sightseeing by boat on the lake. Today you will be treated with floating lunch, a unique setting in unique location…

Late afternoon we return back to hotel by boat.

DAY 4CYCLING TO PINDAYA

After breakfast transfer1hr to Heho. Passing water buffalo market we start cycling to Pindaya along a small road with light traffic. This is a pleasant ride through a farming region with rolling hills often called the Tuscany of Myanmar. October and November are particularly beautiful when fields are covered with bright colours. Late afternoon, visit the Pindaya limestone cave and learn about the local legends and folklore.

DAY 5CYCLE PINDAYA TO MANDALAY

After breakfast, this is a real cycling challenge day. You can ride as much as you want. Strong and ambitious can leave early and cycle longer distance. We cycle from Pindaya on old Mandalay road leading north. The road condition varies greatly, large part has been improved from recent years disrepair which caused most traffic to be diverted to another route.

En-route to Mandalay we pass through Ywagan and Kyaukse and will have lunch in Ywagan.

Today’s cycling distance will be adjusted to riders’ fitness level and desired challenge we transfer some parts as this is a very long stretch to cover. Our support vehicle will be always near for refreshments and rest.

DAY 6BIKING TO ROYAL CAPITALS NEAR MANDALAY

After breakfast at the hotel, restorative morning ride to river jetty and embark on a 1-hour boat journey across the Ayeyarwaddy River (Irrawaddy) to the rural village of MINGUN, known for its massive unfinished pagoda dramatically cracked in half by an earthquake in the 1800s.

From Mingun we cycle along countryside road with light traffic passing through friendly villages over rolling hills until reaching Sagaing. One of the most revered Buddhist centres in Burma where lush green hills are dotted with white and golden pagodas.

In Sagaing we rejoin our boat and enjoy lunch onboard while cruising down the river to Innwa / Ava, one of the ancient royal capitals near Mandalay. Explore Ava ruins on two wheels and time permitting we can make a stop at the Ubein Bridge in Amarapura before cycling back to Mandalay city.

DAY 7RIVER CRUISE TO YANDABO VILLAGE - rest day no cycling

Early breakfast and 3.5hr ferry ride on Ayeyarwaddy River to Yandabo village. Spend rest of the day exploring Yandabo on foot. We visit pottery workshops, kilns and a local clinic built with contributions from cruise passengers and boat operator.

You will stay comfortably in the charming Yandabo home resort.

DAY 8CYCLE TO MYIN GYAN & MT POPA

After breakfast we start our ride to Myingyan town, a lively commercial centre of the region. We can stop at some villages and tea shops en-route to see local life to break the journey. From Myingyan continue to Mount Popa, the Burmese spiritual epicentre for those who worship the pantheon of nat spirits and martyrs.

After paying respects to the nat shrine at the foot of Mount Popa, we climb nearly 800 steps to the pagoda perched at the top of the mountain to admire the views of the surrounding plains and farmlands. Last part of our cycling journey is up-hill ride to Mt Popa Resort offering fantastic sunset views over the Popa Mountain and surrounding farm lands. After that, we continue by car to Bagan, the greatest Archeological treasure of Myanmar with over 3000 pagodas and temples ruins located on the plains Bagan by Ayeyarwaddy river (Irrawaddy). Bagan was during its heyday one the greatest kingdoms in the World.

Cycling: Around 70 km. Flat terrain, road condition varies greatly on this day. You can cycle more or less should you wish on this day.

DAY 9BAGAN CYCLING TOUR

After breakfast, Bagan cycling tour will take you back in time and on hidden trails to explore the ancient kingdoms of Bagan. We make sure to cover all main temples and highlights and to bring you to some hidden gems only known by locals. End the fabulous day with a private sunset cruise on the Irrawaddy sipping sundowner cocktails accompanied by light snacks.

Discover the beauty of Bagan from birds eye view. This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime things you should consider to do. All travelers have loved this excursion. This is highly professional operation and safe. You will depart before sunrise and get back to hotel for breakfast in time to join with rest of the bunch for the days activities.

DAY 10FLIGHT TO YANGON

Breakfast at hotel and transfer to Bagan airport for flight to Yangon. Connect to your international flight or to tour next destination in Myanmar.
